How to make a pin coushion

Please take a look at this pin cushion I made, with fabric I found in my fabric stash.

All you need is 2 pieces of fabric, some card stock, polyfil, ribbon and Velcro.

This would be a great gift for your quilting friends.

I made this because the one they were selling in the store was a piece of plastic that didn't even fit my wrist and the cushion wasn't big enough to hold all my pins. So there you have it, enjoy. The filming will improve with experience, so check back often. And see my website www.donnawesterkamp.com

The Dupioni silk fabric is so pretty. I wanted to make something out of this fabric. So I made this little purse. I have a few pictures here. It is very simple to make.

How to Make A Fancy Clutch Purse

Finished Size: 8” x 4 "

e
Materials Needed:
Cutting Mat 8 ¾ “ x 6 ¾”
1 fat quarter, of purse fabric (18” x 22”) Dupioni 100% silk
1 fat quarter, of lining fabric (18”x22”) 100% cotton
24” square of medium weight iron on interfacing
9” all purpose zipper
Beads and 2” wire to make purse zipper pull
Cut fabric:
I used my cutting mat as a template to cut out my pattern for the purse.
My mat measures 8 ¾” x 6 ¾”

Place your purse fabric and lining fabric on top of each other, set your template on top of these two fabrics and cut out your two pieces for your purse. Repeat to make two more pieces. You should now have a total of 4 pieces, (2 purse and 2 lining).
Cut two pieces of interfacing from template. Iron interfacing on wrong side of purse fabric.
Place wrong side of lining fabric, on top of interfacing, with WST (wrong sides together). Serge around all four sides of each sandwich, to create two finished edges of your purse. (interfacing, lining, sandwich.)

Lay fabric down with zipper facing the right side of the fabric. Sew on one side and then the other side with a zipper foot close to the edge of the fabric.

Zip up your purse.
With the wrong sides together fold over the top of the purse so it is uneven. The bottom edge of the purse doesn’t match. The zipper is going to be about 2”down from the top, not in the center of the purse. You then cut off the excess fabric at the bottom of the purse. See picture.

See how the zipper is down about 2 ½” from the top.
With WST (Wrong Side Together) sew a continuous seam around one side of the purse to the other side.

Take your seam ripper and rip open about ½” of the top left/right side of your purse, where you want your purse handle to be located.
Make a handle by cutting a piece of fabric 12 long by 1 ½” wide fabric, fold raw edges to the
Center, fold, and top stitch in place. Fold your strap in half and

Tuck the two raw edges of the handle into the spot you opened. Sew the end of the handle in place.

Open purse and turn (RSO) right side out.
Make a decorative bead pull. Attach to the purse zipper. Bend wire into the last bead to secure.

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall,
Which season would you like to make a purse for?
